I loved my 2001 sunfire that I got back on spet 23rd 2000.
black, auto 2200 2dr se.
Its a great car, but lately just not loving it as much. happened sometime right after it got broken into for the 3rd time.
me and the car lived through 2 accidents, one very minor.
2 broken driver side windows. one stolen radio. one set of stolen stock oem wheels/tires.
and currently 105,000 miles.
the mpg seems to slowly be getting worse. the drivers seat is easliy worn out. still seems to run good and hard but, its 105k miles on that engine is getting up there.
now it seems like a wheel bearings going out.
the door lock is still busted from the last break in.
and over winter someone put a nice dent in my drivers side, rear upper quater panel.
on top of that, and worst of all, is the stupid gm paint.
1st it was one or 2 bubbles on the window trim.
then I noticed some of the clear coat going a year or 2 ago, but very minor.
now its stripping off the tops of both doors. and the roof line right above the door. and noticed its happening around the truck edge.
I'm geussing by next year their will be a ton of clear coat missing.
oh and the steerign wheel rubber is really worn out.
ughhh, I want to love this car again, I need it to last 2 years or so until I can get a new ride. even then 3 might be better so I could have said I held on to it for 10 years.
Get a new paint job and an alarm. Change the steering wheel and fix the minor things. It seems as though everyday i hate my car more and more but love it again when i am elbow deep in greese. Maybe working on it will make you love it again.

My 97 is at that point -- when I removed my side moldings, all the clearcoat came off with them. Lots of bubbles and rust popping up. Funny thing is that my car still makes my parent's new car look bad when they're side by side. The red paint just waxes and shines beautifully.

I wholeheartedly recommend
Wheelskins. If installed properly and with patience and some sore fingers, they do wonders on a drab OEM wheel. I had it down by my second try.

Perhaps its time for a heavy duty tune up or overhaul on the engine.
Go to the junkyard, pull a nice set of seats and/or steering wheel, which will make it feel like new again.
As for the clear coat, there isnt much you can do short of repainting the car. New paint made me love my car again...
You could always try counseling
Strip everything of value out of it and turn it into a street/track car. There won't be any reason for people to break into it anymore, and all the work you do on it will make you proud of the car and thus "loving" it again.
DO what I started doing, If you dont mind a bit of work. I ripped the interior out, and now im doing a completely custom interior, I have a turbokit on the way, and Im in the process of getting a ported head to install.
Give youreself something to do with it, and when you look at it and when it looks like a pile of $@(#, tell yourself that its only because its under constrution... When you put any little piece of finished product back in it, it rocks your world... A cleaned and painted dashpad makes me giddy now, and Ive had it in there for a week... Waiting on new shift boots and other things to arrive.
I say make it a project car.
hmm project car.
sounds like a decent idea. ya its gonna need some work...
i just cant go crazy, since its still a dail driver.
if i can get it tuned back up to a newer state i'd think i'd enjoy it again.
its just sad, that the car. is starting to feel its age a bit. but then again, it is 100K+ miles, and so far its only needed oil, brakes, tires, and an o2 sensor.
there is one other thing i just remebered that really dropped my head. when the odometer/tripometer, is now just displaying every other number. if i push on the plastic shield the other numbers light up, but its all temporary
what do people think of pearl orange?
any other ideas of what i should do?
Park it for a month and walk everywhere. After those 30 days are up, trust me... you're gonna LOVE having the car again.
well he does speak the truth

burn it to the ground... i've wanted to do that countless times now.
Check out my build thread!
^^^^^^agreed!
take the rubber off next time your with it
You could always get some crap beater car to drive to work and what not, and you'd be able to do what you want to your J, because you'd have something else to drive, plus....when you do drive it, it will be soo much nicer than say (a rusty old 86 escort) that the car will seem soo much better my comparison, and remind you of what you have.
Y'know, I was having this little issue yesterday, the car was running like a dog and just had no power it seemed, and nothing was going right.
I ripped off the valve cover to find the rolller rockers needed to be tightened (somehow i didnt hear any valvelash, but they werent tight, know?) so i got them all to where they were supposed to be and changed out the plugs to some new delcos, and she purrs like a kitten now, and lots more power.
a trick i learned from my mechanic (whos like 1000 years old), put a screwdriver on the top of the stud of a rocker while the car is running, if you hear a slap-slap-slap, tighten it down more, untill its quiet. you wont be able to hear this slap-slap-slap with just youre ear to the motor, need to use the screwdriver. <<this is if you have aftermarket roller rockers.
^^Sorry to double post, but now Im in love with the car more than i was before with just the interior build.
I parked mine and bought an 07 Altima. Love my altima, but after a few weeks I took the 'fire out for a trip around the block. I actually enjoyed driving it, which I hadn't the previous 1-1.5 years.
