My brother bought an '04 Impala ss Indy, about 5 months ago.
He was driving around today test driving other cars, and decided to get his car appraised.
He found out that his car had been in a massive crash, has had the whole front end and engine/trans/drivetrain replaced.
He found this out at a different dealership.
If you buy a car that has had MAJOR damage repair done to it, does the dealership NEED to tell you? we heard that they do. We also heard that you cannot warranty a car thats in this situation, that it would be "as is - no warranty"
Id just like to find out, I co-signed for the car, and it brought my credit down a bit, so they @!#$ with me too on this one. He went to 2 dealerships today and got it appraised for trade-in value, and they said the same thing, major accident.
Anyone work at a dealership that can help me out?
thanks!
most dealers will give you a carfax report and that should have that information in it. If they refuse to give you that report...refuse to buy the car.
According to Pa law, thay HAVE to tell you. That dealership is in extremely hot water at this point. I know this because I just got done working at a dealership for 3 months, and our pre-owned lot ALWAYS gave copies of carfax reports to our preowned customers. And I know we were told my management it's law to notify them of any damage.
My advice
Get it appraised at a second dealer
Get a carfax report on it
Talk to a lawyer after you find things out

We never thought to get anything like that, Personally ive never bought a car alone like that before, and I was just there to help him with credit... I was in another world at the dealership and I was waiting on leaving to get back to work, lol
Im going to do this whole research whatever i do thing before I do anything big with my car or any car again before I do it... Its been working out so far
Thanks for the advice QBE, Thats what I told my brother..
Actually I told him to do what you said, Only I told him to call the dealer anonymously first and ask if they were obligated to share accident information and whatnot, and see what they say (because I wasnt sure).
Hes going to another dealer tommorow before work.
Hes getting a carfax on it today
when I took a car loan through the credit union they wont aprove a used car loan untill THEY have a copy of a carfax
