buyer/seller ratings in profiles?
Thursday, August 09, 2007 6:07 AM
instead of having all the different posts in the General forum about a good/bad seller, how about a "5 star" rating system for buyers/sellers? almost like an eBay type thing. the only thing I can't get around is how to keep a person that has a problem with someone from giving them a negative rating, even though they haven't bought anything from them or sold anything to them. maybe use a moderator as a type of "middle man" that approves/disapproves the rating?

maybe something like this:
person A is the buyer
person B is the seller
person C is the moderator

A sends B payment for a part. B does not ship the part, and A has tried contacting B for 1 month. A contacts C to try and leave a negative rating, giving C evidence that he paid B and tried to contact him. C approves, and allows A to leave a negative rating, which is visible in C's profile here.

it could also be used for companies like Gravana, A+, Car Customs, etc., instead of cluttering up the General forum.

There should also be a number of transactions completed to add to credibility.

Good Idea as well but since everyone starts out as a nothing people will still need to search around to do their homework aboot who is trustworthy and who is not.

easy to manipulate as well by 2-3 people building up someones credibility and then a bunch of people getting scammed at once by the "reputable" dealer/seller

I don't think I have bought anything from an individual online and not picked up in person and payed then and there or paypaled ahead of time.

hell I'm driving to Columbus, OH to pick up a $50 set of wheels for my burb this weekend

I was going to post this a while ago. SRT Forums has this and it seems to work well. I like the idea.

sounds really helpful, but how much more time and work would it be for moderator C? What would prevent scammers from creating a new profile, does Dave have these accounts tagged by some sort of unique ID?

I've seen this work on other forums as well. I've seen a few different sites where you can earn positive or negative "rep points". I think a similar system would be a great addition to the JBO.

agreed.... For the most part the majority who are highly active on her are reputable people. But not everyone knows this. I know who i would trust with buying selling...
