i know that saturns are a GM sister company, but are they classifieds as J-bodies? I'm mostly wondering If my friend could drop a z-24 motor in his 95 SL-2. Thanks

straight form the home page...

"This website is dedicated to the General Motors J-platform vehicles. These include the Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Sunbird and J2000, Olds Firenza, Buick SkyHawk and Cadillac Cimarron. The purpose of this site is to educate and inform others about these cars, as well as to put j-body owners in contact with other owners and resources."

No Saturn was ever a J-body, the closest thing Saturn has in common with J-bodys is the Ecotec engine (in newer ones) and thats about it.

Ions were Delta bodies
S-series were Z-bodies
Aura is an Epsilon chassis
L-series= GM2900
Vue= Theta platform
Outlook- Lambda platform
Relay- U chassis

:o)

Good, bad... I'm the guy with the Cavalier.

k. so are the motors even similar in the older ones? (95 in particular) My buddy's wanting to swap a z24 motor in to his 95 sl2, mostly just wondering if it'd be a simple swap or not.

I don't know much about early Saturns, but if I remember correctly, it was created to compete with imports.

But, out of curiosity, why didn't they use the same bodys? Wouldn't it have been a good idea to split the cost of development, and get a better car for Saturn and the rest of GM?

I'm sure there was a reason, which I can only guess at. Anybody know?
