I am 18 and i am looking at a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L OHV 5-Speed with 89500 Getrag Manual Transmission I now a lot about these cars because I have a uncle who i talk to all the time who is a mechanic and I plan on going to college next year for Automotive and High Performance Technology. Anyway back to the point I live a hour away from the used car dealer that is selling this car and I want to be able to get a good look at it by putting it up on hoist and looking under it for any signs of damage/ anything else but the closest place is my uncle and he cant come with me neither can my mom because she has to much to do with working and taking car of other thing since my father passed away almost half a year ago. Does anyone think that the dealer will let me take the car that far away to get a mechanic to look at that. What should i do about this please let me know.
highly doubt they'll let you take it, let alone trust you or anyone else to put it on a lift.
you "might" be able to convince them to put it on their lift, but I still doubt they'd do it.
what exactly are you looking to see under the car?
Depends on how bad they want to sell it. Sometimes they do, sometimes they won't at all..
When a buddy of mine went to look at a 02 Saturn SL2, the Saturn dealership was really good about letting it go up on a hoist, taking it for a good drive, and one of the mech. even helped him checked the fluid, filters, and other stuff....Turned out to be a good car...
I think if you explain clearly what you would like to do (let them know before you get there), leave them something of importance, like a credit card (so they know you will come back), I can't see why not....
Ya I plan to talk to them about it my uncle wants to look underneath it for leaks, any kind of damage, and if it has much rust or not.
