cavy Q's in import tuner
Wednesday, January 23, 2008 12:19 PM
i just got the march import tuner ad and was reading the "going postal" part on page 110 and read this

" i want to swap out the 2.4l DOHC straight four in my '01 cavalier Z24 for something i can get a little more power out of., like a 4G63 or maybe a F22C. not sure which, but most likely a JDM motor straight from Japan. is this even possible? if so, what would need to be done? Front Clip from another car? if i buy a motor, im buying it with a new transmission and i dont plan on doing a rear wheel drive conversion. so what motor would you suggest and what transmission would you go with? i want something i can get parts for easily and nothing super expensive-4500-$1000"
-DELLDUNE, VIA IMPORTTUNER.COM FORUM

i seriously busted up laughing in middle of my history class (i got sent to the office btw). how stupid are some people? i mean c'mon

this is the replie to it

"the front clip of whatever car you plan to pull the motor from is a good start to start with a project like this...and the rest of the same car is probaly what youd want to source after that. seriously, why would you want to waste the time, effort and money on all that fab work and wiring when you could just sell your Crap-o-lier, buy a DSM that already has a 4G63, and have money to spare? its honorable to undertake a challanging project, but even more so to create something that wont get you clowned by the import and domestic heads at the same time. if you want a JDM powerplant, buy a japanese car, otherwise stick with your cars LD9 Twin Cam"

this is what makes the j body scene gay, stupid kids that dont know ish about domestic cars, if that kid was smart he would search the web and come across this great site and see all the V6 swaps and the ECO swaps. I HATE STUPID KIDS

has anyone else read this?

The LD9 makes more power NA than an ECO. A HO Quad 4 swap would physically be the easiest swap he could do (practically "plug-and-play"), while making almost as much power as a k20A2. (175-190 bhp depending on the head and cams used).

If you really care about learning about cars and engines, then you should learn to stop reading Import Tuner, Street Tuner, etc....and pick up a real book on engine or race engine designs. All otto cycle engines work off of the same principles. When you start to understand them, then you start to see that 99% of the "import crowd" is filled with a bunch of people who throw words around that they read in Import Tuner such as "V-TEC" or "Nitrous" or "Header" or "Turbocharger", in attempts to sound educated, when in reallity, they don't have a clue how the part works and/or what the hell they are talking about.

I will admit though, I do get tempted from time to time to look at a "tuner" magazine.

That 2JZ with NAS swap is awesome!!!!

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

why bother swapping? Fetter and SpeedRacerZ have shown that you can do alot with the LD9.

crap-o-lier?

maybe a 2.2 base model. (which is the only car those fags with the 'tuner' mag's ever try and do up)

i would love to see... scratch that, i would PAY to see them do a full write up on a toyota cavalier, do you realize how many peoples mind's would be blown away due to that?

lol it would be funny as hell.

This is exactly why I started Domestic Tuner Magazine to give those kids some decent knowlege of what's in there driveway. A DSM is cool if you like crank walk and differential explosions! Cavalier's and other domestic cars have way more potential than most people could even imagine. Posts like that make me want to get the magazine done sooner!

doubt it would blow anyones minds, most would just look at it and go woopty doo a cavalier with toyota badges.

nothing wrong with looking at tuner magazines, inspiration can be found anywhere, i look at tuner magaziens, truckin magazines, car audio magazines. a car is a car they all have 4 wheels people spend way to much time worrying about what badge came on the hood.

Are you bashing me or praising me?

I didn't think I was being immature...

Hes being sarcastic and bashing due to the fact that you generalize that they have differential explosions and saying they have crank walk.

yeah if you didn't want to do those swaps, you could always do a 1JZ too ...

That article actually pissed me off when I read it.
But it also adds fuel to the fire of me finishing up my Cavalier and showing them that we (the J-bodies) can be a viable platform for those that want to be serious about the car.

It's even more ironic that in Europe, the Honda Civics aren't even considered a tuner car. Most Civics are owned by older people in the last years of life with no aspirations of doing anything to their cars.
It's only in America for the most part that the Civic is revered as much as it is.

The haters will be haters but when they think they can whip up on this Cavalier, they're always given the suprise of their life.
It's even more ironic to them that they're owned by an auto Cavy.

So quips like that of the ImportTuner magazine don't bother me whatsoever.
I still read them among the many tuner mags I get inspiration to better my Cavy.
