This is an actual, legitimate Q. I'm buying a house, sooner rather then later, and expect/hope to either build a garage to accommodate a car lift, or have one with the ceilings high enough to house one.
www.liftsuperstore.com
The have an outlet out of Canada.
I know some people are going to go nuts, or just laugh... But seriously. If ever I need to sell the house, there'd be DOZENS of car guys lining up to buy my house (as if the local house market isn't hot enough as-is).
Basically, unlike the guys who move into a house with a small-ass garage, then think "hey a lift would be nice" but don't have the funds to build/re-build their garage to accommodate a lift, I'm planning this out ahead of time and fitting it in my mortgage.
Thoughts?

im thinking 95% of the people that would look at your house would consider it more of a hassle than a benefit. Do it if you're doing it for yourself, not for the sake of selling the house.
Oh, believe me, it is for myself, simply justifying it to the wife.
Worse comes to worse, I'll write a check for a used lift.

yea i doubt many people look for a lift when buying a house but it would be somethign you can take down and take to your next house
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
We dont have a lift...but we do have a overhead hoist...its the best.
when we rebuild its going to have a lift. id say go for it. they are handy not only for you but friends and other family. plus like you said, it would make a lot of appeal for someone looking for a house like that. although that could swing both ways depending on your location. it would be handy as hell though!
You can check Snap On. They had the best price when my uncle bought his last summer.
Great thing about them, you take them appart and reassemble them where you want to.

my dads garage is huge and he wants to eventually get a lift put in so that its easier to store vehicles in the winter
that lift superstore link is great, since one of the places is in danbury ct, which is not far from where i live
the reason we want one is because we have 2 mustangs in the garage currently, and its a pain having one sideways so that my mom can park in the garage, so it would be easier to have the mustangs stacked with a lift, and also allow for maneuverability and also the ability to work on at least one of them in the winter, now is just too cramped
i have a 2 post lift. best investment ever. id rather take the 5 to 10 mins to set up the arms under the car then use a jack anyday. it simplifies everything. and all lifts can be disassembled and taking anywhere. the ones that cant are the ones built into the ground and rise up out of the floor. mines held into the ground with 5 inch bolts that were hilty'd in. i say go for it!
Oh yeah.... having a lift is awesome.... I will be putting one into my next garage, assuming the ceiling's there!!

lift superstore is a rip off there 9000lbs are single point arm release NOT good the only good one they sell is the cobra gt due to the single point safety release they want $2888 for the hoist + shipping ($300-400). i recently just started selling hoists with my business 10,000lb hoist your looking at $1999+tax and shipping ($150-300 in ontario) theses are really nice.
as for if you move you can always take your hoist down and move it into the new garage. what you need to look into is if you have 3-4" of cement and 3000psi
The lift on liftsuperstore sure look weak compare to the snap on my uncle has.

what many people dont know most hoist frames are made by one company the frames are then sold to different companys where they install the ram's and pumps

The first time I looked at the site, there was nothing after the maverick lift so I tought it was the only lift they had. What I mean about being weak is the 4 holding arm on the maverick seem weaker than the ones I've seen elsewhere. It's not the kind of thing I'd want to be standing under while it let go.

I'd say it would probalby hurt resale value. the majority of buyers wont be looking for it. and the majority of buyers would most likely see it as something taking up garage space. if you can go for it, i'd see if its something you could teardown and take with you. or maybe if its put up in a small add addition garage in back versus your main parking garage.

But instead of a 1 car garage, you can have a two. Put one up on the lift and another under
2000 Camaro V6.

The ability to take it with me is appealing. Five inch bolts ftw.
