like to think their eclipse is so much better, or their 89 mustang is better, or their w/e car they drive is better then any other j-body? it upsets me to see that this whole tuner scene isnt a scene at all, its just a bunch of little kids thinking they have the sweetest ride ever
isn't that what you're doing though? saying that our cars are so much better?
people are always going to be biased. they think that the car they own is the best one out there, and that they are awesome cause they have it.
its just a sunfire, race me LOL
anybody that knows anything about cars, as far as the tuner scene goes, will know that a Z can beat a civic S off the line
that is the tuner scene, a bunch of adolescents or young adults with the mentality of adolescents trying to be best at something
its really simple to be honest, maybe try and learn a little bit about the mustang scene or the other car scene and be able to relate
then you can show them that yeah, the Js are respectable as far as the early tuning scene, and if you boost them, they can hang with the big boys, but it takes a lot of work
just like any other car, the real respect comes when you make a car thats mediocre, magnificant
why does this topic come up every month? why are people suprised that they get laughed at because they drive a j?
I hate Mustangs with a passion. In my eyes they are not even fit to be paper weights. Does that mean they are the worst car ever made? No, the Pinto was(Skreeeeeeeech, bang,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BOOOM!!!!!!!)lol.
People will always hate things and frankly J-bodies seem to take alot of hate. If your tired of gettin that hate, just alot of research about your car and learn all you can about it. Real enthusiasts can appreciate the time, money, and agony put into any ride. Even though i hate Mustangs i will still acknowledge a nice, well built one.

more like every week. seriously, its a J, what kind of respect would you like? in case you havent paid attention, 99% of all J owners are hacks and cheap bastards. What else do you expect people to think?
why do people get butt hurt that a @!#$ box GM economy car on a 13 year old platform (3rd Gens) doesn't get them mad tyte street cred?
if you look on the same page this was on there is another thread about the same thing, that however is almost 5 pages long!
Oh just get over it alreadyeverybody. So what if somebody don't like your car because of this or that. Why waste your life worrying about that, there are far better things to waste your life on like girls and porn

because everyone feels the need to be excepted, duh
heaven forbid you do things for yourself and not others
an rsx-s driver told me yesterday not to bother doing anything with my car because it wouldnt do much. i just laugh at those people bc when my car is built.. they wont wanna race anymore.

dude seriously, the bottom line is its a j-body. No one that owns any car (realistic cars) that was designed for speed (evo, sti, 350z, mustang ((GT and up))) will EVER respect you. I dont care if you boost or not. Even if you boosted your J-body to high heaven and whipped all those cars I listed, you will still not really get respect...why? Because you dumped all that money into a J when you coulda got something with balls from the factory. And if you say thing like, "well, when Im boosted, or built..etc...etc. Who cares? Either get another car or stop worrying about it. Hell, you can get almost all those cars for under 20k used now.
I guess it's because of the reputation the original j's had when they came out in '82- a cheap econobox. Hell, I was always getting harrassed in high school when we had an '84 Cav; of course back when I was in high school (the 80's), if you were caught 'modding' any kind of a four-cylinder you practically got lynched! I like my Cav, but I know it's not a hot performance or sports car, nor was it meant to be.
All cars do the same thing.... they get you from point A to point B.... that's pretty much it...
So unless one car gets you to the grocery store better..... once isn't better than the other.... regardless of any spec sheet the car has on it.
It just comes down to personal taste and preference..... and once you realize that a Ferrari is actually much less useful than a Cavy in the real world... it kinda makes you realize that none of this stupid bickering matters.... it's all just how you look at it.
You said it, Weebel! All this bickering over what car is better than which is immature child's play. I still own my Cav after 20 years simply because it's been reliable- I could care less if it doesn't have all the fancy gobble-de-gook on it! It gets me from one point to another!

Wow, i dunno what your talking about but its not repect. Any dilhole can but a fast car, but not anyone can take a low end car and make it nice or fast. Thats what the org is about, loveing our low end grocery getters.
But in the end if you take pride in the work you do on your car, whatever it is, all the crap we catch shouldnt bother you. I hang out with f-body guys and by your definition Quest, i should get my ass handed to me with all the disrespectful teaseing. I dont.
I vote for a lock on this pointless thread.
Speaking of taking notice, it was a surprise to see Joe Shulte's Cavalier in the readers ride section of Sport Compact Car and winning the ride of the month.
To me, that was a sigh of relief, and a statement to those that don't think that there's people that can make a J nice. Thank you Joe for showing them that we can and getting ride of the month in a magazine that doesn't exactly advocate the Cavaliers or J-bodies for that matter.
This should be enough inspiration to keep on with our Cavaliers and show people that we're not the scum of the earth.
I love my Cavy.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
Also....
I used to drive a car hauler ( you know those huge semi-trucks that carry 10 cars).
During my time doing that... I had to drive a wide variety of different cars... and the funny thing was that every one I drove... I compared it to my J-body..
I actually found myself driving a new BMW 540i with a 5-speed... and although it was much nicer than my sunfire and worth a crap load more money... all I could think to myself was... "well... it's still not my Sunfire"...
Regardless of what car I was driving.... I could usually find something that my Sunfire did better... even if it was something as stupid as throttle response.
When you put a lot of work into a car.. it grows on you... and if you do a good job... you become proud of it and defensive of it. Oddly enough... it almost becomes a member of the family to some people. That's why people argue over whose car is better... it's really no different than parents arguing with each other about their kids at a little league game.
And if some one gives you the line "why would you put all that work into a J-body when you coulda just bought X car", those are the people that don't think like that and you pretty much just need to blow them off.
As far as a guy with a Z28 giving you crap about your hopped up Z24... that's a different story... personally... I usually just tell them that my car is paid for, gets good mileage, is getting faster every month... and will eventually be faster than their Z28.... and on top of that.... I can still afford to due things because I don't have huge insurance premiums or a car payment. Besides... my car is unique... and yours is a run of the mill camaro.
And if the Z28 is stock (or close).... I usually just look at them... laugh... and say..... "your just jealous because you don't know crap about cars.... and you know that if I had your car.... it would be running 10's by now".
In the end... it's all just petty rivalry and doesn't matter..... A hopped up corvette isn't going to get you do the gas station to pick up a pack of smokes any better than a Geo Metro.
who cares what people think of j's......its a hobby...the tuner scene that is. regardless, its sort cool to have a car that yo hardly see now! wel at least in my neck of the woods.

honestly, all i do is line up with them, show them whats up and even if i lose they always respect me and say damn i didn't think you could supercharge a sunfire, to get respect for driving a j-body you need to have some decent work done, which i have done and it feels awesome to get respected.
The j's i think get made fun of the most is the ricers with the body kits, fart cans and big wheels. Thats just my take.

agreed, i was merely pointing out the fact that owners of more high end cars will never respect the J. So when the OP is talking about how eclipses etc etc, give him no respect...he shouldnt be surprised. I also actually do agree with you, modding what you want, how you want. God man, I modded two cavaliers in the past and even tho I got laughed at by some for doing it, i'll be damned if I wasn't proud. But never did I expect to get respect from any other owners of any other car.
seriously, lock this already.
fact: J's are cheap cars
fact: most J owners are just as cheap as the car they drive
fact: who gives a @!#$ what others think
fact: this thread sucks

Mustangs? Don't you mean "Rustangs"?
I don't like 'em either, but I gotta admit they could be a lot worse (Pontiac Aztek anyone?).
Everybody is going to come up against people slamming their particular car. If the J-body is your thing, then go for it. I'd rather drive a Cavalier than a Civic anyway.
I don't suffer from insanity...I enjoy every minute of it!
