I did a search for compressed natural gas. I know some Cavaliers ran on CNG. I can't believe I don't see any info regarding them. Might just be the next big ticket item.

why? it's just as expensive as gasoline, you get about 2/3 your regular mileage, and the tank takes up the whole trunk. it didnt catch on for a reason.

All CNG cars had 2.2L/2200's... and were slower than regular 2.2L/2200's
Mostly fleet vehicles.. I've seen a few over the years. Nothing special... you can pick 'em up really cheap on Ebay once in a while.
Yeah I was not real clear on the point of this thread was I LOL.
Here is my point. I want to convert to CNG. Why?
CNG is MUCH cheaper than gas. It is about $1.20 per gallon equivalent here if I pump it from home.
I realize it is not a performance upgrade. But for $1.20 a gallon it won't take long for me to have mad mod money to overcome that.
By the way, it is taking off.

Oh yeah, any information you can give me on how to convert or purchase a CNG Cavi would be cool.

dont even try to convert. they mada CNG cavs so just buy one for a DD. if thats not in your budget, then sell your car and buy one for a DD. as people said, they pop up from time to time on ebay. about a year or more ago i saw them not even going for 2k. just a month or so ago i saw the starting price was closer to 4-5k. gotta love the upswing on resale prices for econocars during gas crises.
I have seen a couple of Eco CNG Cavys on eBay in the past.
There were two that completed recently... one for $200, one for $7000...
no, it wasnt. they were sold as fleet vehicles
Maybe it was different in the US... but you could order one here in Canada, no problem. It's even listed in the sales brochure.. for example, in 2002 you could order it but only on a VLX sedan, and it required an auto transmission and air conditioning (no, I can't figure out why either...)
Some one correct me if I am wrong but I think they were only made in sedans.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
I think you could have bought them in the US at the dealership too. I have a 2002 Cavalier brochure around here somewhere... and I'm pretty sure it was a listed option.
I think they only came in sedan form too. My friend Jeremy has one... it's a 2001 in Ultra silver metallic. There is nothing special about it... completely bare bones, no options.... the radio... is just a radio, no CD or Cassette.
But it's pretty cool though.
from the dealer, eh? thats interesting. maybe that was just in the later years. ive seen a few 95-99 dealer brochures and never saw cng cavs in them.
I think they started outfitting the cavaliers for CNG in 2000, but it could have been earlier than that.
What was the first year of the ecotec? I might be able to hit the junk yards and look for a CNG 2002 if they are ecotec. I might even be able to order it directly from GM. Probably not cost defective, for now.
CNG coming only with A/C and 4 doors does kinda make sense. CNG vehicles more than likely went primarily to fleet type applications such as Gov't agencies. They are always gonna want A/C and four doors. A few years ago it was not viable for a home owner to have one. The only strong point was that they were a "green" vehicle and made the tree huggers feel warm and fuzzy. Today, it seems to be a viable option for your average dude who does not mind filling his car up at home; and does not mind lack of trunk space.

a/c and auto i can assume is for one of two reasons. extra mounting points for the cng stuff or fleet purposes auto obvios
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

i have a GM shop manual here for a 98 cng cav, so they were offered at least back then. but i thought i saw info for them as early as 96-97 model years?
CNG was only offered on teh 2200 so my guess its that it only goes back to 98
