Are there direct bolt in engine swaps?
Friday, May 16, 2008 12:55 PM
Being a Fiero owner, I'm quite familiar with "you can swap anything if you have the time/money", but is there a DIRECT bolt-in engine swap for a '98 2200 SFI w/ 3 speed auto? Thanks.

define "direct bolt in"

you should be able to slam a 2.4 in, but need to swap computers too....eco is a maybe for the older style. I think the fact that yours has the older trans would complicate the eco.

im sure others know better than i though.

By bolt-in, I mean not having to change anything but the engine (and obviously ECM), or maybe engine + tranny (and ECM), and maybe a few minor things. I don't want to mess with a modifying the coolant, A/C, or fuel systems or the wiring harness, as if I'm doing that I may as well swap something insane into my Fiero. I'm just interested in replacements for my 2200 SFI in case I can't or don't want to fix it.

Translation....is there anything as simple as a V8Archie swap for a Cavalier? Nope.

Stick with the Fiero; it may be 10 years older, but is a much better platform to build from.

No, I don't want a swap for more power. Like I just said... if I was doing a full swap for fun, I would do it in the Fiero, but I don't. Instead, I have engine problems in the Cavalier and I'm just wondering if there's any alternative to another 2200 SFI if the current issues turn out to be expensive.

Is there maybe a version of the Quad Four/Twin Cam that's pretty easy?

2.4 = engine, harness, trans and maybe a couple other small odds and ends... practically bolt-in.

thats the best....as mentioned before.

just make sure you are getting it out of the same donor era, or you will need to modify for trans mounts. I dont remember the exact year they switched styles, I believe it was 00.

what all is involved in swapping an eco into an 02 ? is it just the motor, ecm and engine wire harness or does it have to be the whole entire wire harness?

ecos were an option in 02, so it should not be that involved. BCM and related wiring should be fine.....engine harness may also be compatable....cant tell you for sure on that one though.

The 60* V6s swap in fairly easily, not quite a drop in, but after the 2.4 TC about the easiest swap. See the Third Gen Forum for 3400 swap sticky and many posts.
