Today I received a letter from gm saying that if you own a 96 sunfire your air bag might be at risk.

a significant amount of water? hmm....my floor behind the driver's seat has been soaked a time or two due to the wonderful experience that is owning a convertible. even though im fixing it, i wonder how possible it is for that to have affected my airbag?
but from reading the letter ^^^ it doesnt sound like this is a recall, so if GM isnt paying for it, im sure as hell not going to do anything about it.

The air bag brain is located under the passenger seat, its a piece of electronics and they really don't like being soaked in water.

Just got the letter today for my 96 Sunfire. Might have came over the weekend since I hadn't checked the mailbox since Thursday. Nothing for my 99 Cavalier though. I think it's just an FYI with all the flooding in the midwest going on.

so far ive not had enough water in there to go above the indent in the floor board. who knows about previous owners though....
of course ive not received a letter yet, not that itll matter either way.

same here and I dont even own my sunfire anymore I just got rid of my sunfire almost a month ago and got the letter 2 days agao

I own a '98 Sunfire vert and know (from prior mailings I've gotten) that my name and address are in the GM database showing me as the current owner. But I haven't received the letter.
I actually got 4 of those letters....
96 Cavalier - Sold to Brian aka SpeedRacer
97 Sunfire - Drag Car sitting out back no bags
97 Cavalier - Sold to Eric
96 Cavalier - Never owend 2 of them so I think its a copy of the same one which I sold to Brian

anyone else ever think while their taking a drink, that if the airbag went off you'd be the first person to die of having a drink cup smashed through your face?
