Who has bled on their car?
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:05 AM
Just as the title states.

Im just curious how many people have bled while working on their cars, and how many just kept working despite the blood?

I have, a LOT at one point. Ive actually got blood INSIDE the motor, from when I was adjusting my 1.6:1 roller rockers, likewise I got oil in the wound. My motor and I share blood.

Anyone else?

I did from sheet metal inside the door. My coworker ran for a rag and was kind enough to wipe it up off the side skirts while I wrapped the cut in electrical tape.....

If I don't cut myself or bust a knuckle when I walk away from working on any car, then I didn't do it right.

Nothing like protecting the car and using "sub standard first aid" to dress the wounds.

at least use duct tape! Haha!

We're probably all victim to this.

Who hasn't? If you do your own work it's bound to happen sooner or later.

Once trying to remove the engine to trans bolt (middle rearmost one) with all accessories and intake mani intact on my 2200 auto I ended up removing a fair amount of tissue instead of the bolt...

And who has'nt felt the fresh scrapes on your fore arm from the front of the ABS module as your doing ANYTHING behind a 2200 auto...

OR scraped yourself trying to change an oil filter on a 2200 auto with A/C.

Usually i find out about these injuries next time i go to spray off a part with brake clean or some other liquid...usually never water however, mostly things that burn.

almost put a screwdriver through my thumb a week ago trying to get trim piece that goes over the wipers back in its spot. Starting to heal now. Gonna leave a nice little scare though. Other then that I've gotten cuts all over from working on the car. Hell I go through it almost every oil change. damn OHV oil filter location.

Any tape works, just duck tape is associated with garage band-aids. A usually throw some paper towel, or a shop towel around it and then wrap it in tape.

Actually, I think I get less damaged from my Cav than my Bronco, or my g/fs '94 1500 Pickup, but on those, EVERYTHING is either rusted, or dang near impossible to smoothly loosen, cracking a bolt loose and smashing into whatever gets in the way is my most common source of injury on those, and those are nasty.

Exactly! The best DIY bandage, by far, is a little piece of shop towel directly on the wound, with electrical tape wrapped over it.

Scraped the @!#$ out of my arms doing a intake mani install on the cuzins LS1 T/A. The bolts that hold the coils to the valve cover are actually pointed like spears. Why GM?!?! WHY???

I almost lost a finger building the rear for my truck. The empty housing fell off the jackstands and landed on my middle finger.

After switching to a CavaIier trunk lid last Fall, I was adjusting the tension bars for the trunk and one of them slipped out of place and whacked me really hard in my right thumb. I was bleeding all over the @!#$ place. A pretty good sized chunk of the right side of my right thumb almost came completely off, so needless to say I did not continue working on the car that day, but 17 stitches and 1 day later I went right back to work on it... after I cleaned all the blood off the trunk carpet of course . The funniest part is that my thumb never really hurt after this happened, it was more of a throbbing sensation, but by God, when they stuck my thumb with 3 shots of anesthesia I wanted to cry like a little girl . That was by far the worst pain I have ever felt. Also, this was my first and only time ever being at the ER for anything and it made for a pretty great story when I walked in there .

A car just isn't a car without a little blood, sweat, and beers.

Short of having someone else do the work on your car there isnt really any way around bleeding, but hey what would be the fun without it right?
How many people get 'sunburnt' from welding? (many times and never learn )
