How much can my 97 2.2 pull?

Per the owners manual:

100lbs tongue weight. 1000lbs gross weight

It's scarcely suited to a proper load of passengers. Towing of any kind is sketchy.

I used to pull 2 sea doo's (one big one one small one) with the double trailer in my dads old 2000 sunfire se (2.2 non ecotec) It was a lil slow i'll admit but managed to get all the way across town and load/unload the doo's by itself without a problem.

My hitch is off the car because the right side muffler wont fit with it installed BUT, I used to pull my 600 or so pound V-Max on a 200 pound trailer on a regular basis. No sway problems. I didn't beat on it with the trailer hooked up and I set up the tongue properly and she pulled it comfortable for hundreds of miles. No braking problems either.
