What happened to the JBO??
Thursday, March 19, 2009 12:56 PM
Have been with this site for probably 4-5 years at least, don't let the profile fool you. I had to take a break on the whole car thing with the birth of my daughter and I just not came back to the site. What happened to the JBO?

When I left there were How To's every where on how to take out even the most intricate of machinery. I searched today and could not even find a post to remove a door panel.

The main library is bare!
You are going to tell me that with all the near genius mechanics on this site that their total 5 year contribution has been a total of 100 writeups?

And then there are things like this in the library;

http://www.j-body.org/faq//17/

This is the FAQ;
"That depends mostly on your budget and what you want to get out of your car. There are many paths to follow, including suspension, engine, body, interior, etc. Look over other cars and decide where you want to start. "

I mean really? That is what the JBO has in the library???

Don't get me wrong. I have loved this site for quite a while. I applaud everything that anyone has contributed.
I even applaud the new kids that come in with their first car. EVERYONE started some where.

Long live the JBO, but please... Some one wake it up?

You to realize that they stopes making J's 4 years ago right? Why would you think the comunity would grow and expand? It's a dead platform that wasn't impessive or sought after to begin with, the number of J's is only going to grow smaller.

not to mention that everything you would ever need to know can be found threw searching, and if a quick search doesnt turn it up you can ask and have a response in a matter of minutes. this place might not have many of the same faces around here, but the guys who have taken these cars down to the bare metal are still around. and I would like to say that there are also still people pushing the platform. takening it places it hasnt seen. Northstar anyone? its just slowing down becuae it's getting harder and harder to do something orignal. when I started my turbo project there was one guy... one, who cracekd a 12 second pass and now a 12 is no big deal. were still evoleing just now at a slower pace.

Despite my repeated calls for contributions to the FAQ... only one person sent me stuff, and it was added.

So if you have suggestions... send 'em my way.

Anything you feel is a Frequently Asked Question and deserves to be in the library. I'm not talking how-to's... that's more of a Library thing which Dave takes care of... but the FAQ is still sadly lacking.

I know I searched early trying to find the pics from the guy that did the 03+ Import Fighter in exterior and there were at least 6-10 threads asking how to change the 03+ style tails with the bar to the 95-02 style without the bar. It was ridiculous the lack of overall searching that must go on. People have gotten lazier and the overall "tone" of the org is really starting to suck. Not enough of a brotherly feel like there should be.

Hah, yeah that's what people were saying about Fiero 20 years ago. The community is stronger than ever. Its not going to die its just going to grow smaller and more polarized. You will have the die hards who will always be around, and then you will have the kids who got one as a hand me down. That is pretty much where we are at now. There just hasn't been an effort by the JBO owners to redevelop the site.

Completely agreed!

I am also the proud owner of a 97 Eagle Talon, Eagle the company that was dead and gone 10 years? after starting...
But there is more of a an active tuner community there now then EVER before... granted that it is smaller but everyone is still very active...

I can't believe I'm about to say this but, the Fiero is worth it.

How many Cavaliers do you pass on your way into work in the morning?

Ok, now Fieros?

I rest my case.

invalid argument.

back a when the Feiro's were in their time, the same thing could have been said about almost any car from the 70's and early 80's.

in the next 10-15 years, the same thing will be said about the J's. over time, that kind of thing will happen. hopefully, I'll still have a J in that time just so I can say "I own a classic, do you?"

god I want to hit people when they utter "dead platform"

there's plenty of "dead platforms" that still have an active following, and still have an active aftermarket.

majority of muscle cars are "deat platforms". most popular hondas are "dead platforms", old sports cars, etc etc most cars that get modified are "DEAD FOOKING PLATFORMS"

yeah and those were cars people actually wanted, cars that were respected, cars had a mainstream fallowing.... not cars that most considered disposable garbage. There's a HUGE difference muscle cars and cavilers.

I find it funny when people flip out and call it a dead platform and quote all the dead platforms of the past that are now popular.

People, this is (was) an economy car from a domestic auto maker. Musclecars cars were NOT built the same. Eagle (specifically the talon) was a DSM, and that had it own's following. Honda's practically created the sport compact scene (along with a few others) so they'll always be there.

Face it, you don't see people flipping out over ford escorts do you?

your right, a '69 Camaro and a 95 Cavi are the same thing, my bad. I forgot they had the same level of popularity, same level of aftermarket stuff, the same size fallowing, both have a huge group of people who would love to own one, lots of people have posters and models of both cars in their bedrooms, both turn heads wherever they go, both are on t-shirts, hats, coats, etc. both are in magazines regularly, both are portrayed as "cool" cars......

are you @!#$ kidding me? Your actually asking what the difference is? Everything!

Your completely right about the rest of that though, you make it what you want it. You mod your car to make yourself happy and that all fine and dandy, that's the way it should be, but if 25 years of production hasn't earned them any respect or a major fallowing that's not going to change because they stopped making them. Be honest, how many people got their first cavalier because they WANTED one? most inherited it, picked it up for a decent price used, or even bought one new because the price was right. Back in 04 when I bought my first new car I got a Cav cause I couldn't afford a WRX at the time and I took it over the Neon because of better finacing. You make the best of what you have but that to the rest of the world it is what it is.... the J-body scene is never going to boom.
