when i first start my car the gauge reads full even though theres 1/4 tank left then it imediatly drops to empty and the check gauges light comes on. the car still runs fine though and its still getting fuel any ideas?

What year is the car?

I know there was an issue with the silver contacts on the 2000 and 2001 model year cars, where certain additives with the fuels used in some areas (including mine) would cause the level sensor to corrode and read 1/4 tank, even though the tank was empty... and I had the same issue you had - full to empty in seconds.

thanks mine is a 2000 so i will definantly check into the level senser

yea.. my '01 sat for over a yr before I bought it and replaced the fuel pump and we noticed that there was ALOT of corrosion and rust on all the canister bits, including the level sensor..... great, more tank-droppin for me
