I have a 2001 2.4 Z24 Cavalier that seems to have a mind of its own. My car will idle at 1700 rpms when sitting in neutral. In the morning when the engine is cold rpms will hit 3300 rpms for a minute and then drop down to 1700-2000 rpms. While the car is moving I can't keep the revs below 2000rpms until the car comes to a complete stop. I was told by a friend to change the Idle Air Control Valve but that didn't help the problem. I was wondering if I should change the MAP Sensor or the TPS? I'm new to this forum and looking for some help.
Thanks
check for vacuum leaks first, good chance you have some crappy lines by now if you have never changed them.
1) Disconnect the battery for 30 mins, see if the computer and TPS reset itself
2) Try to find a vacuum leak from a broken/torn rubber hose
3) Replace IAC
4) Replace TPS
5) Repalce MAP
6) Bend over at a mechanic's.
