We have a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE Sedan that has 257,xxx miles on it. Original engine. The transmission was rebuilt at 217,xxx miles, but other than that no major repairs. Doesn't burn oil or anything either.
There's a guy in WI with a 1st gen that has over half a million miles on it.
My 1999 Cavalier was just shy of 200k when i sold it last month.

no, hes gonna wait till the car warms up, then go street racing yo. i guess will all that power hes got in that Cavy, it makes weird sounds from time to time.
197,000 on the old LD9 engine.
Same with the tranny which has been autotransinterceptored now for about 9 years with no signs of letting up the ghost anytime soon.
No use in fixing what isn't broke so until that infamous #3 rod bearing says hello or the tranny kisses death, I'll keep driving it until it's time.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
my first gen had 430k on it when I got rid of it in 2002.. and it was running good then. unfortunately, my "friend" I sold it to decided to high one night with his buddies and rolled it with a Nissan Frontier

nice fail.
he wasn't even quoting 95lscoupe.
My car has 5 miles. Just 5.
Interesting figures. I was checking out odometers at the junkyard a while back and most were in the 200-250k KMs range. A couple where ~280k and one had ~330k. Remember thats KMs. Most of which had the 2.2 engine. I guess the Winters here wear them out a little quicker. I've got 190k KMs on my 2.4 (~120k miles).
well i bought my cavalier off of craigslist for 200$
it had 251,xxx when i bought it january 2010 now it has
271,xxx still running good except my little epoxy fix for my cracked radiator recently broke back open so
i plan on changing radiator tomorrow.. ( when i first bought it the thermostat was sticking) 3$ fix lol

That miles or KMs? I'm at 270,600... just took it on a road trip to the lake and back, got 30 MPG.

just put an 80k mile engine in it from a 94 truck. the original engine went 272020 miles before the oil pump quit. the engine is rebuildable and will likely get a few "extras".
no problems with the trans, but had to put a clutch in at 195000. i dont recommend auto zone cheep chinese clutches. also put one in a 94 S 10 4.3 v6. both had the same bad chatter.
when i replaced the engine in the cav recently, the clutch looked normal, but was worn excessively.
other issues: starters keep failing and nobody washes it or cleans out the trash for me.
1997 Cavalier 2.2/auto. 249,2XX miles as of this morning. Bought the car with 192K miles on it seven years ago. Let a transmission seal leak go too far and had to swap in a used tranny at 210K. That was the major expense on the car. If I had not been an idiot and taken care of the leak immediately, I would have been out $50, instead of $1200. New front suspension bushings, driver's side power window motor and the regular gas, tires and oil. I should note that the motor does not burn oil, but leaks a little through the oil pressure sender. And it does 'tick' on cold mornings. The car has been broken into several times, and I've had to replace the dash pad and face a couple of times now, it all squeaks and makes noise. I work in an downtown area and all of our cars are easy targets for theives after dark. I only have a $89.00 AM/FM/CD head unit in my car now. If it weren't rusting away, I'd drive the stupid thing forever. Still gets 26 MPG in mixed city/freeway driving.
I also have a 1995 Sunfire GT with 160,XXX miles on it. It was owned by a young kid who beat the crap out of the car, I ended up replacing the clutch, trans, front brakes, and a bunch of other stuff along the way. I bought it cheap, but ended up putting in more money than I thought I would. I got this car as a project car to redo with my daughter, but she lost interest in it and bought a 2004 Sunfire SE1 instead. If my other kid doesn't show any interest in it, I think I will sell it off and find me a nice little HHR to play with.
