Ok... I have a coolant leak on the drivers side of the engine at the end of the cylinder head where the rad hose joins to... I originally THOUGHT it was the thermostat gasket... BUT... I looked up instructions on changing that and it says its on the other side of the engine where the passengers drive axle goes in (judging by the figure) sooooo.... what housing is leaking on the drivers side of the head??? What gasket do I have to get, like what name?? I already bought the thermostat and seal to replace it.. but if thats not where the thermostat is, I'm going to bring them back and get the right gasket... help please!!
it would help to know what engine you have
if it is the ld9 (2.4) then it will be the water outlet. i just replaced mine as well. all there is to it is the black water outlet and o-ring. it comes in a kit for like 20.00 at autozone. real easy fix. (just make sure the car is cooled down first) i burnt the hell out of myself when i changed it. but most likely it is that. when i pulled mine off, the black water outlet was chewed up at the bottom and the o-ring was f'ed up.
I DO have the 2.4, sorry... I sometimes take it for granted and forget the j-body ever came with the lame 2.2 OHV engine,
I did the work today.. only problem i had was getting the bolt out that was in line with the power steering pump bracket. When I got the old housing out, the lip that the o-ring sits on was 3/4's chewed away.. yeah... weird. Maybe there's a family of rats living in my engine that chewed it away.. i have no idea.. LOL But it's fixed now.
Thanks Stephen for the advice
THe leak you have is on the metal tube that runs from the back of the water pump across the back of the engine, under the exhaust, then into a housing on the drivers side correct?
I think that's what I'm dealing with as well...

It was the plastic housing on the drivers side of the engine.. I guess the dexcool eats away at the plastic
