There are some places that do, hell back in wisconsin the advance auto (used to be Checker), would take your used oil and coolant.

just leave it near the door at Autozone over night, it then becomes there responsiblity to deal with it.

Or you could just dump it in the alley behind your house

To be honest... a lot of people do that stuff.... even though the laws about that kind of thing are very strict.... the authorities are more concerned with companies than the private person so we all get away with it.

You could also try some of your local dealerships I suppose.

coolant isn't nearly as bad as oil. Coolant when diluted (a lot more than 50/50) is really very harmless, its when you drain it all out on your driveway and your dog comes over and takes a drink that it becomes a problem. Otherwise its just a mix of water an alcohol for the most part.

mmmmmm glycol (drools) LOL

Ya... I know what antifreeze tastes like (kinda sweet).... but there is an immediate horribly bitter aftertaste to it.... which is why I don't understand why animals keep drinking it after the first lick or two.

Our waste transfer facility here will take hazmat stuff like that. Call your trash company or your local landfill and see if they have a program to deal with these kinds of things. If not, take it to a dealership. I would hope they would take it for you. Try to avoid dumping it down the drain if at all possible.

Just bring it to a dealership.Im pretty sure they have to accept it for recycling.

yeah, because we get fined $1,500 for every gallon of antifreeze they find. every time they come to empty the tank of oil, they check for antifreeze. if its greater than 5%, they wont take it without a $5000 service charge. yeah, lets just say, im not happy about this situation, as that fine comes directly from each store's bottom line. the store stops making money, i stop making money.

county municipal utilities association. recycling plants. the dump. any place that takes old refrigerators. they're equipped to handle used chemicals. OR, you could ask one or two of your local garages what they do with it, chances are, you can do the same thing they do.

Sure it'll annoy people - just dump it in a quiet corner of the lawn and be done with it.

Stuff's just methyl alcohol, water, various glycols - at worst you're dumping a few percentage points worth of vaguely yucky metals into an isolated spot.

Big deal is usually animals/kids/mythical drunks consuming it; methyl alcohol is one heck of a good poison. Rest is mostly EPA garbage.

Oil, greases, trans fluid and solvents are a different matter entirely - that stuff will seriously screw up wherever you just dump it. Fairly permanent basis, too.

But coolant? Bah. Just make sure the pets won't get at it.

Incidentally: Billions shampoo every day and wash hands - lots of propylene glycol is in the waste systems. Methyl alcohol is in stuff here and there. It's dumped down drains.

No big deal.
