Mine is rattling, Is this something that should be replaced or will it just rattle like that until it dies?

Replace it.
If it seizes you'll be having a bad day. or you could end up like I did, where the bearings in there went out one day and then it started chewing up serp belts literally every day. I would put one on the morning, and by the next morning, it was squealing.

Just replace it now, or bypass it. Don't wait. It could end up being a bad day.

my uncles "new" 97 cavvy w/ 2.2L he picjeked up last week has a noisy a/c compressor hub bearing

the hub slowly drags/turns with the engine/belt rotation
bearings getting dried/worn

will freeze up eventually

i have seen it happen quite a few times and its not pretty, the belt gets chewed tossed right away, adn well that its

time for new belt and a/c hub assembly and whatever else got broken

about 60 or 80 dollars in parts, and random amount of time for labor to fix it all

and a/c hub pulling and installing tools kit needed

good luck
