My buddy has a Sunfire and the right fiel injector is leaking fuel, what could be causing this? Do the O rings dry up over time and leak fuel? Just curious as to whether this is a know problem with the 2.2L motor?
Thanks
No, they just go bad with high mileage. They are wear the tear but it seems that for the older 2.2s injectors 1 and 4 are the most prone to failure. These are dealer items IIRC. Make sure you replace the o-rings when you replace the injectors. In fact, make sure you replace the o-rings for all 4 even if only one is leaking.
By known problem I actually ment common. So it's the actual injector? Or is it just the O ring??
Thanks
It's a known issue. Sometimes it's just the o-rings that need replacement and replacing them with the ones from the dealer will solve the problem. However, other times the injector is bad and even if you replace just the o-ring it will still continue to leak. You have to confirm if it is the injectors or the o-rings. When you check the injectors, check for any signs of fatigue such as cracks.
fel-pro make a full replacement set. available at any auto parts store. once you pull the rail, there's no reason not to replace the full set.

i have a leak in my 2.2l ln2 and is quite bad
do i replace all or just that one and when i tried replacing just one the car wouldnt start
Did you solve the problem ?
I too have leaky injectors ( hard starting when warmed up ) need a wide open throttle to start , then the smell of unburned gas after it does start.
Which injectors was it 1 & 4 , my thought is the inner two , due to heat build up ?
Curious to see what the fix was.
Mine is a 98 sunfire 2.2L - hard starting when warm for over a year - luckly the battery is good.
you know its funny cause i replaced 2 o-rings 1 and 4 lol with the same felpro rings then pro was solved for my issue and i have a ld9 but now i have a new fuel issue but i think its my fuel pump and i think it needs replaced. but yea if you smell gas dude then pop the hood check to see if theres a leak in any of the injectors man then assets the situation its a easy job
It could be leaky injectors, but have you check your fuel pressure regulator? With the car running pull the vacuum line for it, and see if anything comes out, if so its bad. If not, turn the car off, and smell the line and see if there is any smell of fuel there if there is, replace the regulator. Im not 100% familar with the 2.2's as I have only delt with 2 and this is years back. Goodluck!
