So I put the 2200 belt w/ no a/c on my car because the compressor is making a freightening grinding sound.
I havent had any problems since swapping belts, and its actually got a little better throttle response (no notice in power, but thats not what i was going for)
My question is. when you turn on the defrost, the light for A/C comes on. Will it hurt anything not having the belt for the A/C? I dont care about the compressor as I have a replacement ready to go in, again.
Should I worry about anything? or will it be fine untill i get a chance to replace the compressor?

wont hurt anything. all it does when it's all working is blow the warm air over evapoator to dry it out and clear the windows quicker. All it would do is try to engage the a/c clutch

I figured there wasnt any issue, just was making sure I'd be ok for the winter at least.

only downside is the longer defrost time. But there isn't any actual physical effetcs.
We couldn't do that in the '94 Olds Silhouette 3800 when the A/C failed. They all came standard with A/C so there wasn't a bypass method. It was disconceting to drive with a grinding shrieking sounds like its on the verge of exploding broken A/C compressor. Also the fact that one belt ran it all wasn't good either. I actually like the Honda approach of "one belt per accessory" because of the redundancy, even though that means more belts.

Not sure exactly on the size, I just told Napa it was for a '00 Cavalier with LN2, No A/C. Since ac was an option on those cars, they will have one that fits. Any autoparts store will have the belt

what about the 2.4, did they all have the a/c, mine dosent work so a smaller belt would be nice.
Auto Zone will have an A/C Bypass Pulley, it basically is just a pulley where the compressor used to be so you can use the same size belt. Costs about $35 for the pulley.
On our 2.4 race cars I gutted the internals out of the compressors and just used the empty housing with the pulley on it. It saved about 35 lbs of weight. This is not the prettiest solution but is cheap.
