99 Z24 convertible, AT, 105k
Yesterday I got in my car after work and noticed by odometer was flashing what looked like between the trip reading and the actual mileage. However, it was like every other number was flashing. It was flashing about four times per second. After about 5 minutes it went back to displaying one or the other, but then started flashing that reading very fast - maybe 12-16 times a second. Eventually it stopped all together and went back to normal. This morning it was basically doing the later of the problems. Which ever reading I had it set on would flash. Any thoughts? I have NOT installed anything electrical to the car - completely stock.

Remind me why i keep this car?
Could it be the lamp that is behind the numbers flickering?

If it was the light behind it...I don't think it would effect the digits the way it is.
It my trip gauge reads 129.3 miles. The 1 and 9 will flash, then the 2 and 3 will flash. In both cases, I can not see the other set of numbers (either 1,9 or 2,3).
TIA

Sounds like the trip button is jammed or somehow gummed up.
I have an 02 that does the same thing. I work at a Chevrolet dealership and the service guys say its a common problem, though ive never seen it happen before.
I usually hit the trip button a couple times, seems to help for a little while. Im guessing that is where te problem lies, either on the board or in the button itself.
Search button in action.
My 99 has acted about the same way since I got the car in July of 2004... but just this morning it totally quit working, no trip odometer button mashing will bring it back.
Is a new/different cluster my only hope?
I have a 98 Sunfire with this problem. It comes and goes every now and then. I learned that by touching the instrument cluster at the odometer readout and pressing with a little pressure, that it goes away. I think it's a short in the board somewhere like a broken solder joint.
