ABS Excesive braking noise (Sounds like Machine gun)

Ok, where do I start?

My abs on my 96 2 door sunfire has been making some noise when slowing down at the lower speeds since I bought the car a few months ago. I thought the noise was comming from the dash and just ignored it because of this. The noise seems to be comming from the dash/ front passenger side wheel areas.

On the weekend, a cat jumped out in front of the car and I had to slam on the breaks. For the rest of the day when I applied the brakes at slower speeds, the noise was soooo much louder than it has been. It still appears to shake the dash, but way more violently... sooo much that it is turning heads every time I come to a stop sign. To add to this, the abs light was also light up for the day.

The next morning I step in the car and issue seems somewhat corrected and I am back to that orignal somewhat anoying noise, but not as bad as the machine gun noise that I experienced on the weekend. Could I have an ABS issue? Has anyone else had this issue?

i might be way off base here, but check your lug nuts. i had a lug stud shear off my front driver wheel and all the bolts were loose as hell when i checked em. it sort of made a sound similar to what youre describing.

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but I will check when I get home tonight. Did this vibrate the entire front of the car/dash on your car to the tune of the abs locking on/off ?
