Just bought a 98 z24
Hey guys, my car is a 98 and has like 220,000km on it. I been running regular and wanted to switch to synthetic. im suppose to use 5w-30 but I put castrol gtx 10w-30 Instead. So regular oil
around 130,000 miles
I read on some forums that if you put synthetic in engines with high km/old engines, the oil can actually eat away the seals?
So what oil should I use, its a quad 4 motor by the way...
The motor is running okay. I put some valve kleener and lucas along with the oil.
Now at the next oil change, which is soon should I run high mileage oil, synthetic, regular, lol amsoil racing oil (Joke)
I also have a really light rapid tick tick tick when I start the car up, I think its the valves because once I give it a bit of gas and the idle drops it goes away. Im assuming the oil is to thick for the motor because its not circulating up to the valves fast enough.
Im guessing the 10w-30 plus lucas, plus the valve kleener I put in there could be the reason for that.

And one more thing, I have a second gear grind. Its only when im downshifting into second. I dont know if the tranny oil has been changed so should I change it and add lucas, or should I use a heavy gear oil like 85w-90 or something like that
I think its the wrong forum, sorry about that . I should have posted in Maintenence
umm this is the maintenance forum dude. also, i run 15w-40 in my 2.2 liter engine and i dont get a tick. 10w-30 shouldnt be too thick for any engine really. it could have something to do with your timing chain loosening up due to a bad tensioner pulley though.

i'venever been a fan of using heavier weight oils to get rid of noises... but for your trans, ONLY use synchromesh.
