Crankcase Seal Leak

So this is where my oil has been going. I called my mechanic a few minutes ago and he said the leak was so small that it probably wouldn't even be worth the money for me to fix it because it isn't bad enough for that to be where my disappearing oil is going. He also said that it looks like I'm burning some oil, but doesn't think it accounts for my lost oil either.

Apparently my crankcase breather hose had a nice crack in it on the underside that I missed (of course). He doesn't think that that could be it either, but says see what happens.

What do you guys make of this?

try engine restore and see where that takes ya. You pit it in your oil, and it is supposed to seal rings and gasket's in such..

Have you or has anybody you know personally used it? I'm looking to build eventually anyway, so new pistons + rings and all that fun stuff should take care of most of this, but in the meantime I wouldn't mind a bandaid.

i've used it in my 2200 about 4 to 5 times. I think it makes some difference my 2200 has 132,000 and i usually don't change the oil on time. The last time was syntec / stp oil additive with 5000 miles on the oil change and never lost a drop of oil. It is suppose to feel in scrathes in the cylinder wall so the pistons gain there seal back (what sometimes causes blow by). But usaully blow by is from worn rings that have lost there springy tension.

But i say if you got blow by that more less means you are burning oil too. If your car isn't smoking out the exhuast when first started or goosing it. Then i would say it you are probably aren't loosing alot of oil. maybe a qaurt every 3000 or something around that,

yeah, it says it fills in cylinder walls, but it pretty much does it all. It would'nt hurt to try it out. A bottle only cost's like 6 bucks. And I havent ehard anything bad about it though I havent tried it for myself...

I'll give it a go next time I'm around somewhere that sells it. The bitch is I want to switch to synthetic, and I can't go doing that when I'm already burning and leaking oil :\

the stop leak works with all kinds of oil, including synthetic. So when you change your oil, go to synthetic and ust the stop leak with it. Give it 500 miles or so, then see what happens.
