Well I started driving the Cavalier again. Put around 150 miles on it before today. I took it to work today. Way there was fine. Half way home, I got the low coolant dummy light on. The Temp Gauge was between Half and Red. Stayed that way til I got home (somewhere between 5-10 miles). Once home, checked under the hood. Coolant everywhere. Came out of the Overflow.
My question is does it matter which cap I have, The one on my car broke into two pieces (inside broke lose from the outside). I replaced it with one off my friends Sunfire before he junked it. This was right before I started driving the car again.
My Cavalier's Overflow (and my old cap) looks like this (notice it has a hose coming off right under the cap):
The cap on it now is this one (notice no hole under the cap on the overflow):
Are the caps compatible or not? Just from looking over the engine bay tonight, all I noticed was the Overflow shooting the Coolant out, didn't find any other leaks, and the Temp Gauge stayed between Half and Red when I let it run for awhile. Long shot but I'm hoping that its just the cap. I don't feel like having to spend more money on the car.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

im not sure if the caps are able to be switched or not, but the first pic looks like my 05 eco and second looks like my 98 2200. the caps might have different psi ratings.
As far as the cap...as long as it has the same rating you will be fine.
I see your from WI.You have pressure built up. Thermostat closed not opening maybe?Make sure you bleed the air out.Top pic looks like what I have on a 01 Sunfire 2.2L.I would stay with same coolant overflow jug and same design cap.
caps are interchangable.....if your building pressure, check your headasket by whatever means possible. I always like to get an emiisions snifferover and take a HC reading from the resivor, and see if there is any CO, but not everyone has access to that equipment.
Just wanted to bring this back from the dead to say, I finally (been sitting in the garage since then) went and bought a cap like I used to originally have on the car and problem solved....
