How to replace a blower-motor resistor?
Thursday, September 11, 2008 4:34 PM
01 Sunfire GT.

I recently noticed that dials 1,2,3 would not blow air when turned on. Only when I switched to the 4th notch would I get any airflow - would make for an interesting winter!.

I was told I need to replace the blower motor resistor in order for all 4 to work again. I am wondering if someone has picture or can tell me where I need to replace this piece?

Thanks!

take out your passenger side seat... best way to do so. no kidding. But yea the resister is located under the dash. two screws. really hard to get to and very unconfortable.

Just read the top "sticky" in this forum.
I've changed mine at least 3 times now, and my brother's once, and never taken out the seat. I found it easiest to remove the blower motor first (3 screws) and that makes access to the resistor much easier.
Originally the resistors are secured with two screws, but since my first one was changed under warranty, they never bothered re-installing the screw closest to the firewall. The one screw seems to secure it just fine - so that's all I've ever bothered with. It typically takes me less than 10 minutes to do now - most of that time trying to get myself situated under there so that I can see what I'm doing and reach at the same time. Although removing the seat may make it a bit easier, unless you're extremely tall or "larger than average", it's probably not necessary.

Thanks. I've searched the forum and found a 'how-to' guide on changing it. Looks like it'll be an interesting job
