bad back fire
Monday, September 29, 2008 7:26 PM
i have a 96 Z 5 spd. just put new rings and head gasket on and have had the car back on the road for about 100 miles.

when i down shift from 4th to 3rd and then left off the gas i am getting a bad back fire, not all the time tho. also i am getting massive exhaust at idle. sometimes so bad i cant see the car behind me and when i take off its just a wall of smoke behind me. . . . i have no idea.

my rear o2 sensor is throwing a code but has been for about a month and i didnt have these problems before the rings and head gasket install.

thanks in advance

a wall of smoke, you sure your not dealing with a cracked block.

i had the block checked and cleaned by a machine shop. i just pulled the timing cover off and the timing is in near perfect time so i cant for the life of me figure this out.

Could it be the stock z ignition finally taking a crap on me?
