oil leak

I love GM but with all the issues I'm having with this car I'm starting to think maybe the foreign auto lovers may be right. I have a 2000 sun fire w/ the 2.2 ohv engine. I got the car w/ 54,000 mi on it. I loved it it was a my first non p.o.c. car. Now I have replaced the oil pan gasket to stop the leak, that didn't work. So I went on line and found someone else that had a similar problem. They said don't use the whole kit, only use the rear gasket that is shaped like a U and use the GM engine sealant. So I went to my fav auto parts place bought a new pan and gasket set used the rear gasket & the sealant from GM only and now the front of the motor where the oil pan meets the timing chain cover leaks like a siv! I am going nuts with this car can any one offer me some help please?

My guss would be the seal wasnt properly sealed, Must have had some oil around that that wasnt removed. Its happened to me serveral times. I used degreaser part cleaner on all gasket mating surfaces, Never had a leak yet.

That tip might work for you.

Good Luck.

exactly. gasket mating surfaces must be spotless in order to seal. pull it again, get some scotch brite and a degreaser, clean it, then re-apply. i myself am not a fan of sealants, i like using just the gaskets. last time i used a sealer on my oil pan, it leaked. pulled it off again, cleaned the pan and bottom of the block, used just the gaskets provided, and have been driving leak free for 30,000 miles.

Anytime I do a gasket oil pan, valve cover I clean it aggressively with some light sand paper and brake clean.I usely run my finger over it to make sure it's smooth,no greasy feel etc.Second I use some of the best gasket sealant made which is made by permatex called the RIGHT STUFF.It comes in a 4 oz can and this stuff will fix ANY leak oil, trans,or coolant leak!!!!.Now it cost about 12-13.00 bux a can but u are getting a solid product. It cures fast and I use it with some gaskets but,not all depending on the application.Brake clean is the most effective cleaner to make sure the surface is dry, contaminate free for a sure seal gasket no leak problem.I know from exper and this stuff has saved my azz alot of go back to fix after fixing a leak isssue. This product is sold at advance auto, auto zone, carquest, napa. That is my suggestion.
