Hey guys,
I was doing regular maintenance on my car this evening and to my surprise my oil cap was missing. This oil cap was an aftermarket cap,and obviously was not on tight enough or became loose. The oil level is fine. I assume I have been driving around for about a month now without it on. I drive only short distances 10km daily (commute car). I am planning on changing my oil tomorrow, but I still have no replacement because I live in a rural town and will require it to be shipped in.
From other posts, is it a good idea to put tin foil around the top and duck tape it for the time being?
Any other concerns I should have?
Thanks
Ha, I'd rather wait instead of risking something going in my engine. Junkyard?
Anyone recall the BMW where the guy lost/misplaced his oil cap and plugged the fill with a rock? That was comedic! Not a great idea by any means, his engine wasn't happy!
I do have a junk yard near by and I do believe there is a sunfire in there, however, I have an 01 GT and the junkyard has an SE. Will the cap from that fit?

nah that was his drain plug and plugged it with a sock. it got sucked up into the cams/crank and twisted around.
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
if you need one i have one... pay shipping and its yours.
what engine u got?
2.2 with the dipstick in the cap?
2.4?
Eco??
I wouldnt run it with out a cap.......I like my motor to much,
Purchased a cap and will do the oil change tomorrow.
As I've said, everything seems to be running just fine. I'm looking forward to what the oil will look like.
Thanks for your help.
It's fine to run without a cap, worst you'll do is blow oil out if you have a 2.4 or have something crawl or fall in otherwise. Any GM vehicle with the same size engine will work. Actually most carmakers that I know of use the same engine in different models. As far as GM goes, Cadillac is the only exception, they use those Northstar engines. For instance though, 00-03 Cavalier Z24 can take a motor from a Grand Am or an Aurora.
