HELP! Has water in engine block!
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 4:45 PM
Hello! I have a 2000 Sunfire GT with 72,000 miles on it. Recently the car has been overheating and hissing when the car was turned off after a drive. I took the cover off and saw about a 1/4 inch of water in the bottom by the plugs. Figured I had a small crack I filled it, cleared out the water, put new plugs- and tryed again. After the car barely warmed up water spilled over and I took the cover off and it was flooded again. Do I have a blown head gasket? Help desperatley needed! This is my daily driver. Thanks all!

???
Are you taking the spark plugs out and seeing coolant or just the cover off and seeing coolant in the valley?

ok well I guess I should give a possible cenario, fill up coolant turn on car, and watch the area of the head were the hoses along with ect sensor meet.
Below the power steering pump and to the right, there is water outlet housing, I've seen a couple leaking in that area. It's made of a soft plastic so if you take it off be carefull. matter of fact I just did one today, was gushing like a freaking geyser, nothing like dexcool in your mouth. Farely simple to replace took me like 20 minutes there is 2 parts to replace the housing itself and an o ring. The housing at our dealership was like $40 bucks and o-ring was like $4.

I just realized the Grand am I did was same year as yours, and my cavalier thinking of just replacing mine just to be safe.
