mysterious oil filled tube

hey guys and gals of the cavalier world, i have a 97 cav with the 2.2. I was under my car the other day when i noticed a tube that comes down behind the lower control arm on the passenger side, pulls a u turn and goes right back up. It has a rubber spacer lookin thing around it. Under closer inspection I noticed the it metal under the spacer had rusted pretty badly, but while trying to figure out what it is, i must of knocked some rust loose and now its turned into a pretty bad oil leak. I was not able to follow it because my arm would not fit. Any information about what this tube is, where it goes or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated

Well, considering there are no stock external oil coolers on these cars I'm going to assume you caught a tranny fluid line, or a power steering fluid line. So troubleshoot from there, then get back to us.

thanks guys i checked my power steering fluid level and it was low, so i can guess that its probably that. Does anyone know if its an easy fix or am I better off cutting out the rusted part and replacing it with a piece of rubber hose. Its pretty hard to get to so I think I'm better off to patch it. The rest of the tube is still good.

you have to get the whole line if its metal and rubber , sounds like a pressure line.

I managed to follow the line and it was the low pressure return line for the power steering. I patched it up and my driveway has been much cleaner ever since. Thanks
