Is there any benefits to using synthetic?
Also, do you absolutely need to use a "synthetic" oil filter?

How many miles on the car?

Less than 75K, I'd recommend synthetic. My personal prefereance right now is penzoil platinum. Over 75K, I'd go with a high mileage oil. Valvoline makes a high mileage that is also a Semi Synthetic. You can find it at walmart pretty cheap and just about any parts store. If you really want to spend a crap ton of money, go to napa and have them order you some Valvoline high mileage full synthetic oil. That stuff is like 8 bucks a quart. If your lucky you might be able to find some in the stores but I couldn't find any.

Stick with an AC-Delco filter and change it with your oil. Even if you stretch your oil changes out to 5K with synthetic.

QFT i love pennzoil currently.

i tried a few diff motor oils on my car...
MOBIL fully synthetic
Pennzoil plat. synthetic
Royal Purple
Valvoline Synthetic.

royal purple was on sale and i loved how smoothly my car idled with it. im not going to say i felt more power. i just felt a smoother quieter engine.
pennzoil was my second favorite and ironically enough mobil i hated.......... it felt so rough on start ups.
valvoline was ok.
i stick with pennzoil now. its usually on sale, and i stock up.

find something that works for you.

dont start synthetic oils after 50-75k or you may develop some leakage and problems.

but if you start and stick with it young, its been proven to extend the life of your vehicle. HTH

I bought my 05 cav in June of 2006 with 23,xxx on the clock. At 30k i switched to Quakerstate fully synthetic 5w-30.

Now I have almost 80k on the clock, no problems here, I noticed a increase of 1-2 mpg with the fully synthetic.

Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.

I have over a 100k and i used Mobil 1. I love it and I have noticed no oil leaks plus I agree that I got a little higher gas mileage on the highway. If you are worried about leaks go with a 10 W30 instead of 5 W30. It is normally recommended to do so on older engines anyways.

The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig
