Hey guys,
I own a 01' sunfire gt and I have recently noticed an annoying squeaking sound when I turn my steering wheel in both left and right directions. I primarly hear this sound when I'm turning really slowly. It only occurs when I turn the wheel about 10-15 degrees to either side, any further and I don't hear it. It sounds like pieces of rubber rubbing together.
I'm not sure if this sound will cause any major problems? Should/could I lubricate any area to minimize the problem?
Any suggestions as what it could be and what I should do?
Thanks.
Well Steve, Ive got 01 cavalier, Mine has done it for a bit now. I know its really crappy sound, Idont know what can be done, I believe its an rubber gasket that keeps dirty and grime out the the steering wheel column. So far it has been a 1 year since my has been making the noise, I havent had a problem.
Thanks.
I'm hoping to change it soon if it's not a big job.
I would like to find out some more info on this too. It's been brought up a couple times before without any answers. Mine has been doing the same thing for about a year now. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems at all. Anyone have any ideas?
Go under your dash on drivers side and remove the plastic with the two small bolts that are in the front of the knee panel, now push your seat back as far as it will go and get yourself looking under the dash. On your steering column there is a piece of rubber there that connects together to keep ouside air from getting in the car remove it and grease it with some grease or vaseline something of that nature to try reduce the squeak that should help yah out . hope it helps
Didn't help... anyone else have any ideas?
I got $20 on the Power Steering pump.
