Since the end of last summer, my a/c turns on and off throughout driving range, when I come to a stop and put my car in Neutral, it stays on. I put more freon in my system and the problem still happened. A few months ago I finally took my car in to have this repaired. The mechanic told me it was probably my computer going bad, can't remember if he said PCM or BCM. (I wasn't charged). After much research I found out that it could possibly be my radiator fan motor malfunctioning. Well I'm here to tell you that I replace the radiator fan motor and the problems has ceased!!!!! So for all of you experiencing problems with your a/c clicking on and off, check your radiator fan motor, it will probably be the cause of your problems, I picked up a new motor from Advance Auto for 24.99!!! WOO HOO, now I just have to wait for summer again, being that I'm in Texas, there's probably still some hot days in the coming months. Thanks J-Body members!
hmm interesting... I have a different problem though.... my a/c works 100% fine as long as its turned on within the first 30 seconds that the vehicle has been turned on....... however if you switch it off of a/c and try to switch it back you cannot unless you stop the vehicle.. turn the car off and turn it back on.....
I have a similar problem that doesn't happen all the time. At times my A/C turns off and my idle will jump from 750 to 1200 it keeps doing this for 10 minutes then the A/C will turn on again. Was this what you experienced?

for you, avid straight, i would say your idle control motor is ethier dirty or going bad as this adjusts the idle speed to accomodate the a/c compressor.
Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
Is the idle control motor the same as a idle air controller?
