Ok, I was totally wrong in my first diagnosis that the car was getting fuel and not spark. It ran fine off carb cleaner today. So I started looking to see why it wasn't getting fuel. I disconnected the fuel line under the hood, turned on the key and no fuel coming out. You can hear the fuel pump run, then cut off like it has built up pressure. My next move was to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter inlet, same deal, no fuel. You can hear the pump run when you turn on the key. It runs a couple of seconds then cuts off like it has built up pressure, but no fuel is coming out the line.
So is it the pump? Something clogging the pump? I did run the car really low of fuel on the tank before this one, but have put 300 miles on this tank? If things were as they should be, would the fuel pump run until it drained the tank with the fuel line removed because it never would build pressure, or will it only run a couple of seconds regardless? I am thinking it would run all the time unless it built pressure.
I SO do not want to drop that tank, but if I do it only has an eighth of a tank of fuel in it, so it won't be heavy.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like the pump is bad. If you aren't getting fuel with the filter off and the key on it is dead.

Even if I can hear the pump run, then kick off as if it has built up pressure?
It only runs for a couple of seconds to prime the system. It has nothing to do with pressure.
Um the pump is more than likely wore out. But i would think that if it was turning on it should put out something. One of two things could happend though. First are you sure you gas gauge didn't go on the blitz and telling you that it has gas when i might not? Oth is the fuel pump pick up hose could have came off or got brittle and broke off. Did you hit any harsh pumps before this happened by any chance? Any ways it is in the tank some where(pump, pick up, out of gas, or the filter on the end of the pump could be stopped up)
Don't mean to double post but 300miles on a tank depending on what kind of drviing is a good bit. Also if the car hasn't had a tune up i would be it isn't getting good gas mileage. in my 99 fire with a 2000 5 speed 2.4 i get between 23 to 26mpg in the city driving but i do have some issues. Put a gallon to gallon and a half in it and see if it starts. Because you have a smaller tank than what i do and when i fill up at 240miles(gas gauge quit and haven't felt like messing with it. It hold anywhere from iw ould say 8.7 to 10 gallons
