Ignition and spark plugs replacement...
Saturday, November 01, 2008 11:03 AM
So my car totally died on me this weekend, she was running real rough and the check engine light was on, so due to the severity of the problem and my knowledge not being as much as i'd like to have around the subject, I took her into the stealership.
They told me the ignition module and spark plugs all have to replaced at about $400
My question is how easy is this job to do with jbo members guiding my way?
Is it worth it to just let the dealership have it's way with me for the cash money or should I get the @!#$ out of there now?

Man its real easy, and wont cost you more than $100 to do yourself.First go to auto zone and get them to run the code on your check engine light. then go to a junkyard and buy the coil pack(mine cost $50)and most likely they will leave the module on the coil pack. Then buy you some plugs at any parts store, which ever brand your prefer, stock is auto lite I think, and don't cost more than $25.and it is VERY simple to replace them, the coil pack is held in with 4 bolts and it slides right out, then you will need a ratchet and extension + a 5/8's socket too take out the plugs.don't forget to gap the plugs, most your don't have to gap but just make sure. Then do the opposite to assemble.Hope this helps.Let me know if you have any more questions.

Just adding to the shopping list, if its not too late. Get some di-electric grease and anti-sieze while you're there. About $2 total, but worth it. Also, I would say get AC Delco plugs. auto lite is an aftermarket company, and a very sub-par one at that. The Delcos at most places are very cheap (I changed my plugs about 6 months ago), and very well made. Just throwin' the last part out as advice, not to knock on 02cavcruzin's excellent advice above.
