I bought both front wheel bearings for my 01 cavalier, I was wondering if anyone knew the correct metric, Ive got 30mm to pull the one off the car now, I am thinking I am gonna need to get another deep socket, My guess would it be 28mm or 29mm?.
Thanks for youre help guys.
30 MM for the Axle Nut
55 Torx for the 3 bolts that hold the bearing assembly
3/8 Hex to remove the Caliper
A good chisel to get assembly off
I just did mine this weekend
I also did the Brakes while i was in there
So did u reuse the old axle nut?. Cause my question was the new axle nut that came with the bearing units, Is smaller then 30mm.
I reused the old one
I didnt like the way the new one was threading on
Torque on the axle nut is 140 ft lbs
Torque on the Torx bolts is 70 ft lbs
Yes exactly, I dont like how that how the new axle nut fits in the 30mm impact socket, I am gonna use the old socket as well. Thanks for the info, Greatly appericated.
Well got everything all done what an easy job to do those wheel bearings, Lucky I had my impact air gun, I had lil trouble getting the strut bolts looses and also the axle nut was on there pretty tight too, They popped off easy with that. Thanks again.
You're actually not supposed to re-use the old axle nut, that's why the new hub comes with one. It's a lightweight nut. With the ammount of torque you have to use to put it on, then with the engine turning them tighter it can distort the threads and damage an axle end.
