149000 miles...ORIGINAL tranny fluid...3spd...

So my question is...should i even touch it? I bought the car for $1,000, so if the tranny goes out in a year im still ahead of the game. Its not my main mode of transportation either, its a beater. but im afraid if i drop that pan (thee is no drain plug), and change the tranny fluid...i wont have a transmission that works for long.

thoughts? tranny is working fine, smooth shifts, never misses a beat...but i dont hammer on it either.

change it. the trans will go to hell sooneer or later if you dont. as for it being original fluid, i doubt it. the filter would likely clog. the filter is like 12 bucks at autozone plus i think mine took 6 quarts of fluid. be sure to clean the inside of the pan good with brake cleaner and dont lose the magnet.

every one i know who has flushed/changed a high mileage tranny fluid has had the tranny $hit out on them soon after.

both ford and chevy guys i know.

leave it, why waste your time?. just keep a eye on the level/ make sure it dont leak and just keep driving it.

good luck
