im new to this forum stuff so if u can jus give me a little while ill catch on
ok so i need some help findin out why my car dies when i go into neutral if i go up a hill in 3rd or 4th then coast down in neutral as soon as the rpm's go down they drop anywhere between 0 and 500 my lights go dim and then they either jump right back up or the car jus dies i didnt kno if i would be the idle air control sensor but i have no clue so if someone could help id appreciate it
thanx
i had the same problem on my ecotec for a while...replacing my MAP sensor fixed it...could also be the IAC sensor or valve (trying cleaning out the valve before dropping cash on a sensor) or also your throttle position sensor. If you have access to an OBD2 reader, try that as well to see if you get any errors...mine didn't throw any errors when I had a problem, but by rights it should.
i dont have any codes already checked, i thought it was my fuel pump when it first started doing it bc it only did it at 1/4 tank, but now it does it when its full
yeah, the codes part is what made it hard for me to diagnose...I changed my TPS first cause that made the most sense to me..unfortunately didn't work for me. Then I cleaned out the IAC valve, and tested the sensor (not a true test for the sensor, but what I did was test the resistance in it, then called the parts counter at the GM dealer I used to work for and got the specs for the sensor and compared them - check out fine). I think I also replaced my plugs just for good measure too. I also tried a new PCM since I had a spare laying around.
Then I got to thinking about how the MAP works---in a nutshell the info it sends to the PCM is based off a pressure reading...my thought was that if the sensor is failing and reading a much lower pressure than what was really there, say for instance at 600rpm it was only reading (or recognizing) the pressure that would normally be there at 0 rpm, the pcm may be fooled into thinking that the motor was no longer running so it compensates by cutting the ignition. Just a thought, but after 2 weeks of a headache it fixed my problem...and my car did EXACTLY what you described...I hit the the clutch to let it idle down and it would drop down to about 400-500rpms, every once and a while it would bounce back to a normal idle and be ok, but 9 out of 10 times it would stall on me.
alright thanx man got another ? for you wheres a couple good places to look for hid's for an 04 cavi and other websites to look at for parts
As far as HID's go....if you just wanna swap out your stock bulbs for HIDs, I would suggest www.retrofitsource.com, they sell a nice bi-xenon kit that I just picked up for a retrofit for my lights. Someone else on the ORG recommended that site (I forget who) but I think a lot of guys on here give a thumbs up to it. If you want to look more into what brands of HID kits to get, I would head over to the exterior and electronics forum and ask over there...I can't think off the top of my head the better brands...just stay away from the $60 Ebay HIDs.
If you want HID Projectors...that's a different story for our cars...the only after market ones are for 95-99s. So you either have to retrofit them yourself (which again retrofitsource.com is the place to go) or find a member that would maybe you some. I know Bubba has a post floating around about making them for people, and so do a few other members as well. Either way they are pricey. If someone makes them for you, you may be looking around $500-700.
My advice is if you have any fabrication skills, take a stab at doing it yourself. I got a component kit from retrofitsource.com for about $300 (included the projector housings, HID ballasts and bulbs) then grabbed another set of headlamps from a local junkyard, and you can either make the shrouds from ABS or fiberglass, etc.
As far as other parts, what are you looking for? Bodykits, performance? I personally grab alot of stuff from the classifieds section here on the ORG, and from my regional forum too. There are a ton of members on here looking to get rid of stuff for a decent price. Many are willing to trade parts as well. A+ Performace and Gravana Tuning are also excellent sellers, you can find links to their sites floating around on the org here as well. If you can give me a better idea of what parts you are looking for maybe I can point you in the right direction.
Hope that helps man.
ok
ill give it a look around i kno ima noob so ill keep researching a lil bit more
im looking for performance mainly im more about go then show but thanks for ur help man
im sure ill see u around the org
if you're interested in performance mods I suggest checking out Allecotec.com ...lot's of nice toys there
i looked there theres some interesting things
u anything bout where to find body parts like the trunk lids that are shaved
Two options for a shaved trunk...you can get a fiberglass or carbon fiber one that is shaved, I think Class Glass and a few others make them, I'm pretty sure some guys on here have them so you could ask around in the exterior forum and they can give you some info on the quality, fitment, etc. Not positive but I think they are in the $400 + shipping price range.
If you want to keep a metal trunk you're gonna have to weld and do the body work yourself, no manufacturer makes a shaved metal trunk. If you or a buddy have some welding skills and know a little about body work it's not a hard task to do, although it's definitely not a beginners project. I shaved mine in maybe 3-4 evenings after work, so if you have some body work experience I would suggest giving it a try...it's definitely saves you a lot of cash.
