I have a 1998 Z-24. My daughters car. She went out the other morning and started it and she said it was running funny. I when out and checked it. it had a Dead miss.
Took it to my shop and checked the codes. Had code p0200 and p0301, p0302.
Did the norm. Checked the plugs and replaced them, they were old. Still missing. Went to a friends junk yard and swiped another coil set up to just check and see. Still had a dead miss on 1 and 2. Switched coils 3 and 4 with 1 and 2, still no change. Don't have a noid light to check injector firing, but I am really thinking its and injector problem. Maybe wiring? Especially since it is 1 and 2 at the same time.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out what is wrong.
Can no one offer any insight on what might be wrong?
probably injector solenoids? or could be wiring as well check wires with a test light, but i really would think it had something to do with injectors
Did I mention I drive a 2000 Lumina now?-----wigm-tuners.org member
Do they have many problems with the computers on these cars. I would think that it would be something a long the lines of the injector driver in the computer (if thats where it is located) or maybe a ground. I would think it would have to be something that would tie the #1 and #2 injectors together since they both stopped working at the same time.
Maybe the ignition control module?

im going to say either a injector related problem... or maybe the ignition module... if you switched the coils and its still doing it on 1 and 2 then that would make sense...
Ok, do they have separate relays for each injector? Would the Ignition mod cause a code P0200.
I have tried a different used control mod and coil assy. No change, but thats not saying the used one might now be bad. But it was still missing on the same cylinders. I Ohm'ed out the injectors and they all check the same ( I don't have the spec's). I did check the compression and it is all good. I did switch the injectors around and still had a miss on cyl 1& 2.
If it ain't the injectors, or a ground - and usually a ground fault is obvious because the whole car is rusted to hell - try the air temp sensor.
Goes bad a lot, it seems, and drastically affects stuff.
I will try that.
I have to try and get this thing going this weekend. My daughter is getting pretty upset not having her car, lol
Ok P0200 is Injector Control Circuit. This would tell me it is either the injectors or the ECU. Truly sounds like ECU.
P0301 and P0302 I could not find these codes in any 2.4 ECU with HPT.
The ECU is located in the passenger side fender well and can get salt etc... in it over time and have issues. GM had a recall/fix it with a shield/cover on some J's.
You could try disconnecting the injectors one at a time to see if the motor changes, which my guess is it will not.

Thank you John. Thats what I was thinking. I can unplug both #1 and #2 injectors and no change. Also 1 and 2 injectors ohm out the same as 3 and 4.
I was wondering if the ECU was a common problem with the these. I guess you answered that for me. Thank you.
I will try an ECU and see what happens.
Will the new ECU have to be flashed?
Found out yesterday that it is for sure the computer. The injector drivers in the computer for Cyl 1 and 2 are dead. So new computer is on the way. Thanks for the help and input.
Just a quick update. Installed new computer and all is good. Thanks for all you guys help.
