Hey guys,
I'm gonna be trying out some methods I found to prevent frost on my windows so that I do not have to scrap them. Give me your opinions and I'm wondering if you have tried any of them?
1)Put cardboard or garbage bag on windshield, use wipers to hold it down
2)Spray a mix of 3 parts Vinegar 1 part water on all windows
3)Cut a raw potato in half and rub the windows
4)Spray some WD40 on the windows
The last 2 don't seem to have any credibility but I'm hoping something will !
5) garage
let us know if any of those work...
im gonna be doing some mythbusters of my own... i know the garbage bag/cardboard will work fine.... vinegar has been confirmed to work on the internet just need to mist the windows every night. I'm just scared the vinegar will kill the paint, shouldn't if its just on the windows but everything kills paint even air and rain.
You can go to autozone and buy the stuff rain x makes that will not allow snow or ice to stick. It's like 5 bucks. I have used it the past month and all i have to do in the morning is hit my wipers once and its slides the frost right off my windsheild. I love it!
cardboard would be guaranteed to work seeing as there will be ice on the cardboard and it wouldnt ever touch the windshield.,
heard of vinegar before but i would only use it on front and rear glass due to the run-off which could damage paint.
here is my solution

I have a big piece of boat carpet that I lay across my windshield and the wipers usually hold it in place. Works great most of the time, but nothing beats a garage.
I've seen plastic covers that are designed for this purpose. They usually sit on the windshield, and to hold them in place, you shut each end inside the front edge of the doors. Although this may help with frost, I would think that it would certainly damage the door seals over time, and probably allow water to leak inside the car if it rained. I would also think that it would be very nasty to remove if the windshield was wet when it was installed, and then froze onto place overnight - or worse, during a freezing rain storm.
Myself I use Rain-X. Although it doesn't seem to make much difference with the frost, it certainly does what it claims to with water. If we get a bit of rain which then freezes, I find it easier to clean off the window, since much of the water will bead-up on the glass, rather than sheet across it. I use it on all of my windows. In a heavy rain, the wind blows the water right off of the side windows on the highway, leaving them clear - and often I don't even need to use the wipers!
Maybe we'll be lucky and get a fairly mild winter...
