my car has very little heat, my radiator leaks, so this might have something to do with it correct?...also a bad themostat would do it also ? and if so how do i tell if its bad?
yes i realise that...i noticed after i posted...
lol...nice photoshop tho lol...hey how'd you snapshot the webpage? just curious
Alt, Ctrl, PrtSc
open MS Paint or whatever and paste
I usually toss the thermostat in a pot of water and boil it, if the valve opens and when heated its good.
If the valve is already open, or doesn't open. Its bad.
Most modern thermostats should fail in the open so it should be obvious if its gone the way of the dodo.

did you check your heater core.
no clue where its exact location is
i think it's on the passenger side somewhere, could be wrong though.
icic, well i replaced thermostat, topped off fluid and still my guage moves some but nothing close to where the temp should be, im debating taking the thermostat out?
only reason to take its out is to replace it. thermostats are cheap. get the most expensive one you can, and change it.

i did lol, i thought removing it would allow it to be "open" all the time
which would mean the coolant is constantly flowing through the block, and not getting enough heat to allow the engine to get up to temp. no thermostat=no heat.

Where to start? If the car has decent heat and the temp gauge is not registering properly it is either the temperature sender is going bad or ur gauge in the car is.I would highly recomm checking ur carpet on the pass side for wet spots from heater core, and check ur hoses upper/lower and radiator for leaks.Could even be a old radiator cap that causes not heat as well.If you do not find a leak I would flush the system using a prestone product or other brand replace both upper/lower hoses if over 4 yrs old(common rule by manuf/ and I replace mine every 4) This is a suggestion replace the radiator cap , replace the temperature sender should be a single or double plug at or near the thermostat housing always. Now drain system, refill with water and flush (like prestones) and run car for at least 20 min use some cardboard in front of radiator this speeds the heating up and make sure ur heat fan is on high while car is on.Make sure u leave the rad cap off this helps air bubbles escape and it may burp and overflow if does install cap.Now let cool refill with just water to flush the flush out of the system. To finish up use the same process and then refill with coolant and water mix.If afer u have done all the aboveif the car still has lame heat u prob have a blockage in the heater core assuming no leaks,or the radiator leaks as possibles.Oh the most obvious is the water pump may be going poor circulation! Check to see if the pump is leaking around the weep hole,if it is replace the pump when u do the flush(i would repl if if way old doing this)I may have left stuff off or be incorrect so if I have please add or correct me if so.
U may also want to check the two hoses coming from the heater core coming into engine area from the firewall for distortion or caving in as well for poor heat issues.
thanks for the info i plan to check this out tomorrow...i had the water pump done a little over a year ago when i had the headgasket done...where abouts is the heater core/hoses going in coming off the firewall...that has been something i could never find
heater core you will see 2 - 3/4" or 1" block hoses coming out of the fire wall you will also see a black 90 elbow this is the drain for the catch pan for the heater core if its leaking you will have coolent coming out of that if its not your safe.
3rd gen js are a dink to change no idea about 2nd gens never did one
have you checked to insure the flap that covers the heater core isn't blocking it. this flap is controled by the temp knob. if your engine is runnign are normal operating temp and you still don't have any heat it may be time to start takin the dash apart to look at this. this flap when in heat allows the blower to move air over the heater core when closed it just passes over not allowing the air to warm up the air will be as warm as outside air or if your AC is on the conditioned air
