I have myself a Toyota Cavalier 2.4Z and a couple of strange things have happened to me in the last week (i purchased it a week ago and when i drove it this wasnt happening, but I would like for people to not say 'take it back' because i can't)
1) Check Engine light is on
2) Car sounds like a tractor, it doesnt run rough it just has a really tractor-esque sound to it
it's a 97 model if any more info is needed let me know im not too ofait with this sort of car, I'm a beemer man myself but this is for my girlfriend
Thanks guys

take it anywhere that can work on a gm car. the only difference between the "toyota" cavalier and the chevrolet is different taillights, different fenders, different assorted trim pieces, and rhd. computer system, drivetrain, powertrain is all the same. first thing you do with any car thats obd-II with the CEL on is find out why.

yeah check the code. thats what any normal person would do
My guess is the code will be cylinder misfire on random cylinders. Possibly a bad fuel injector, fouled spark plug, bad wires or a bad plug boot / coilpack. Not sure what the setup is on those cars but those would be my guesses. Also, check the oil and coolant. Check to see if the sound is originating from somewhere specific, like en exhaust joint. Exhaust leaks can cause some odd sounds and thatw ould also explain the CEL as it would be an emissions code.
