OK so today I get ready to leave, and I turn the key and it turns over. and no start. And I crank it and crank it and crank it. Battery is not dead, and it turns over and over no problem. But the car isnt firing, to start up. Where do I start to diagnose this problem? car is a 97 sunfire, 2.2 OHV auto 177k miles

ok so so far, I got under it, and the Fuel pump is definetly kicking on. then I pulled a spark plug and check it for spark and we are getting a spark. What else can I try and find? maybe the fuel filter clogged or froze? anything else

If it is getting fuel and not starting I would consider replacing the crank position sensor. This causes the car to turn over all day and no fire. Now granted ur coil packs could be in the picture too,so do not rule these out of a failure part scenario. That is what I would go with checking into 1st.Hope this helps and may others correct or add to it.
But the car is getting spark, I checked that?? Wouldnt that mean the coil packs are working??

Before changing anything today, I tried to start it, and it fired right up with no problems. I have no CEL's and it runs fine? Wut could have caused this??

do you live in a cold/wet area? im in michigan and the last 2 cavaliers (2.2) i had did that same thing, no start, everything checks out good, then it just starts up fine. it did it to me just this last weekend with all the wet/cold weather. i just blame it on the weather then jump in the z. if anyone else knows what it could be, i'm interested. i'm going to replace my crank sensor tho, just to be sure. i belive it is a hall effect sensor which from what i understand arent too reliable......
