when i turn my car on it starts up but right away the rpms drop and if i dont hit the gas to rev it and get the rpms back up for that half a second the car will die

I was about to suggest Injectors. Go get a "Black" bottle of the STP Fuel Injector cleaner. You can get it at Walmart, if you have one nearby. I would change the fuel filter as well, if you are unsure how old it is. It takes no time and is an easy and cheap swap out.
