Well, it's about that time.
The last of my cars gets to switch over to a new oil. (the 04)
My other two are running Mobil 1 now, but with this cav I have been toying with the idea of Amsoil (might even get a deal on it.)
I plan to have a little fun with this car (hopefully auto-x)....and a bit of "spirted" driving.
But, I want to make sure she's well cared for....so it begs the question: which would you run?
Keep in mind that this is the "3rd" car, so it is not driven as much. Which even had me considering a "downgrade" to Valvoline Synpower......
My ears are open...
May I ask why Royal Purple is not an option? Royal Purple is between $6-7 a quart, so it actually may be cheaper than amsoil. And of cource debatable for better protection then amsoil.
i will be running royal purple in the cavalier once it comes out i have QS in it right now after doin the heads but i will be switching my trans fluid to royal purple aswell
JBO since July 30, 2001
Neither. Mobil 1 isn't what it used to be and Amsoil is too expensive IMHO. Unless your really getting a deal. My recommendation is to run Pennzoil Platinum in it. Readily available and has gotten awesome reviews.

Nothing against RP, I would use that if I could get a nice deal on it.....

I thought about that too...since my cars are used to running on Quaker State before that. (same company and all)
The other issue being that it is not drivien enough....so knocking an oil change down (maybe three instead of four a year), a good synthic might help keep everything in order in the engine between start ups.......
PP is a good choice. i run it in all my cars. never had a problem taken valve covers off to check for buildup periodically as well. clean as a whistle.
So it kinda sounds like I could really run any of the above and be fine....protection of the engine parts is my biggest concern here, as being driven less and more spirted may beat the Eco up a bit.
The one thing that annoys me about Mobil 1 right now is how nasty it gets after just 3k, which have been the oil change time for the last few I've done....even hough her Cav runs like a top....
Run Royal Purple for 3 years now
Engine is very clean inside

But wouldn't lucas break down the Mobil 1 faster?
nope not all sence. All mobile 1 oil is synthetic you have to use the lucas synthetic additive with it if you go that route. Everone I know and talk to about it swear buy it.
