Ahoy all. This may sound like an odd question so I would appreciate the patience. The only reason I am resorting to posting my question on the jbody site is because I can't find any consistent answers anywhere else for my question.
Currently I am in the process of replacing a spun rod bearing on my #3 Rod. (Note: I know next to jack about cars, so bare with my limited car-ebonics) My buddy and myself have gotten to the bearing and are at the point where all we need to do is replace the old bearings with the new, however the last thing stopping us from doing so is the torque specifications.
We have two automotive books for the car. One I bought for my first sunfire and lost which later turned up, and one I bought when I jumped into the Rod Bearing repair. However my issue is that neither of the books have the torque specs.
I have searched diligently online and found that universally its 18FTLBs of torque but ranges anywhere between 80-100 degrees in wrench turns.
I called a Chevy mechanic who works at a dealership here locally and he said that the standard setting is 18ftlbs - 80/90, seeing as how to get to 90 from 80 its just a slight turn and doesnt make much difference, but to me that just doesnt sound safe.
So my question is, since I have concluded that its 18ftlbs what is the turn angle? Or safe turn angle?
