2.4L Rebuild book/how to

I got this kick ass LS1 rebuild book for Christmas and got me thinking if there is any company that makes one. Sadly the company that made my LS1 book doesn't make one for my LD9.

My 01 with 121K on it has started burning a quart and a half of oil every 4k. I realize that may not be excessive to some people but up until recently, the car didn't burn anything. I'm hoping I can pick up some kind of book that will show step by step instructions for everything so that if/when the time comes I can rebuild her. Does anyone know if a book like this exists? Or should I just try to find a gm service manual? And don't even say haynes/chilton's manual. They show you just enough to get you in trouble and some of their info is off.

I don't know of a step-by-step manual for the LD9, but tons of information has been written both on this site and the Quad4 forums (quadforums.com). As much as everyone would like to have everything spelled out throughout life, it rarely happens and you usually need to combine your gained experience and mechanical savvy with several references to get the result you want. I like the factory service manuals, but even they're written with the experienced technician in mind (with access to the GM special tools, fluids, sealants, etc.). The Haynes and Clymers may be less technical and geared more to the do-it-yourselfer, but I've always found them lacking (not that I don't own them too). And, all of them will likely not have all the tips and suggestions you'll get from people that have been there/done that. I recommend the factory manuals and they show up on eBay cheap fairly often. That being said, you can't discount the value of other references as each has something to contribute and there are decisions on modifications or upgrades you shouldn't make without researching everything you can find. When I rebuild mine, I'll read everything on this site and Quad4 forums first (again), have my several manuals handy and combine it all with a few (hopefully not many) careful questions of experienced people here. Research is just the cost of doing business (and doing it well) and it's almost always rewarded. Good luck. - Mark

Awesome, thanks ION!

Obviously this site would be used as reference. I don't have much mechanical knowledge but can do much of my own routine maint. So the more materials I can gather the better off I would be!
